The 2023 Sanremo Musical Festival kicks off with 5 nights of competition

The winner of the Sanremo competition will represent Italy at Eurovision 2023

Italy’s biggest and most popular music event kicks off today with five straight nights of competition. The Sanremo Music Festival, held annually at the Ariston theater in the northern city of Sanremo, located in the Liguria region, will be held between February 7-11. The music competition is an opportunity for Italian artists to showcase new, unreleased songs, all of which are sung in Italian or Italian dialect. The competition dates back to 1951, making this year its 73rd edition. The Black Eyed Peas will be a special musical guest on February 8.

The winner of the competition will be given the chance to represent Italy at Eurovision 2023, which will be held in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Italy has won Eurovision three times with Gigliola Cinquetti in 1964; Toto Cutugno in 1990; and Maneskin in 2021.
