Laura Pausini Reflects and Celebrates Her 30 Year Music Career

Laura Pausini is looking back on the ups and downs of her explosive career in the music industry. The Grammy-winning Italian vocalist admits that she has “went through some sort of crisis” these last few years. In an interview with Billboard Italy, she said “I felt like I was lacking support from those around me, I thought I couldn’t make it. But now I’m feeling more confident than ever.”

Pausini began her music career as a singer at the age of 19, something difficult to achieve for many Italian artists. She’s sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and has done nine world tours. Three of her songs have landed on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart - each song being the Spanish version that was originally written and produced in Italian. To celebrate 30 years in the music industry, the singer kicked off the celebration with a 24 hour music marathon.

Get to know Laura Pausini and some highlights from her 24 hour music marathon:

  • Her career kicked off when her original song “La Solitudine” topped the charts in 1993.
  • Her 24 hour live music marathon was originally supposed to be 30 songs, one sung in a different city of Italy from North to South. She also originally planned to travel by van. She ultimately changed her idea when she realized it wouldn’t fit into 24 hours.
  • Pausini revealed that she felt more free in Madrid, Spain, than she did in Italy. This was because she grew up in Faenza, a town between Bologna and Rimini. She felt that there were people who knew her family, and knew all about their personal lives. Many have been following her career since she was 19. She revealed that when she’s abroad, it’s not the same. In other countries, they only see her as a huge star.
  • In 1993, she joined Eros Ramazzotti as another Italian born singer famous in Latin countries and the first Italian woman to garner that fame
  • The start of her career was a result of many different things. Pausini won The Sanremo Music Festival in 1991 but was not called back in 1992. In 1993, she returned to Sanremo where she won again. The head of the Dutch Radio saw her perform and made her song priority on their stations which led to global recognition.
  • Her newest single, “Un Buon Inizio” was written by Riccardo Zanotti of Pinguini Tattici Nucleari. The song was released in early 2023.
  • Her ultimate goal with music is to demonstrate that pop music matters. She wants to show that whether it’s a light hearted song or a heavy ballad, a pop song can change someone’s life, even for a short period. She said, “I experienced one of the most touching moments of my life when I sent an Italian guy in a coma a vocal message in which I sang and spoke to him.” She continued to say, “We should never underestimate what we write and sing. That’s why I’m not able to sing as a mere performer.”
