The landslide hit the island of Ischia on November 26th and was triggered because of exceptional amounts of rainfall. The landslide hit just above the town of Casamicciola, burning more than 30 buildings in mud and water.
This has raised many questions about the buildings in Ischia and the illegal construction on the island. It has also grown worrisome about construction and safety across the entirety of the Italian Peninsula. With climate change increasing the number of natural disasters, the worry is that of safety in the event of earthquakes, floods, or more possible landslides.
