Rome is in the midst of a luxury hotel boom, with many big names popping up all over the city. So it comes as no surprise that one hotel brand most well known for its environmental practices, recently opened its first urban location in the capital. Six Senses has a longstanding commitment to sustainability, enabling its hotels to stand out from the crowd. The company continues this tradition in its new site, while promoting the Eternal City’s heritage and connection to culture.
Six Senses Rome is one of four confirmed openings for the brand’s global portfolio, and its launch resulted in the restoration of the facade of San Marcello al Corso Church, along with its current building, the 15th-century Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini. The ground floor is reserved for dining and gathering (thanks to the inclusion of the BIVIUM Restaurant-Café-Bar), and the first is home to the Six Senses Wellness Spa. The crown jewel is a large terrace that boasts NOTOS rooftop, which offers 360-degree views. Once you walk through the hotel, you’ll find most of the original structure still intact with marble pillars, grand staircases and arches. The design adds a modern touch to antique elements that were inspired by the city's rich history.
The Six Senses Wellness Spa features 5 treatment rooms, and the 960-square-meter spa offers unique Roman baths, including a laconium, caldarium, tepidarium, solarium, hammam, and relaxation lounge. It’s complemented by a gym and a studio dedicated to body toning. Personalized assessments and training are combined with mind-body therapies like yoga. And in the resort’s Alchemy Bar, therapists treat guests with locally sourced ingredients and products, encouraging them to feel textures, smell aromas, and create their own scrubs, hair or face masks.
“Six Senses Rome will showcase our new take on urban hotels with in-room wellness programmes and the ability to order an infrared blanket, acupressure boots, massage guns and even an inverted chair if you prefer to hang upside down after you wake up,” said Anna Bjurstam, Six Senses’s wellness pioneer, prior to the opening. “We will launch an exclusive membership club, with access to our rooftop terrace, and of course personalized wellness programmes through our biomarker screening and expert coaching.” Other planned franchises include Six Senses Kanuhura in the Maldives, Six Senses Crans-Montana in Switzerland, and Six Senses Southern Dunes on Saudi Arabia’s west coast.
