Pizza is one of the purest expressions of Italy. It’s simple, delicious, and can satisfy all tastes. It’s for meat lovers, for vegans, for vegetarians, and gluten intolerants – simply put, pizza is for everyone. New York City boldly claims to be the birthplace of America’s first-ever pies and in its defense, pizza is everywhere in the Big Apple.
The “Italian Combo” is a sandwich that commands so much respect it’s referred to with reverence as a “Godfather.” A sandwich made of curated meats and cheese packed in Italian bread. On this mighty classic sandwich, you’ll find Capicola ham, Genoa salami, and soft provolone cheese. By any name, the Italian Combo is an offer you can’t refuse.
Food history is full of myth-making. Such is the case with Pizza Margherita- a crispy, thin-crust style pizza topped with San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh basil born in Naples, Italy. One origin story is that Margherita Pizza drew its name from once cooking an egg yolk into the center of the pizza, making it look like the daisy flower, called “Margherita” in Italian.
Pizza is normally inexpensive and easy to order, this pie, however, is the opposite. A pizza dubbed Pizza Louis XIII and created by master pizza chef Renato Viola is currently the most expensive pizza in the world. For $12,000, Viola will personally come to your home, along with a chef and a sommelier, to prepare his pizza.
