We love our cani (dogs) like members of our own family. Choosing the best breed or rescue dog for your household is an important decision. Here is a secret to picking the perfect pup…make it Italian!
The Bracco Italiano, Italian Pointer, is one of Italy’s two native hunting dogs and was the first dog registered in the Kennel Club Italiano, founded in 1882. There are two types of Bracco breeds; one hails from Piemonte and the other from Lombardia. These hunting dogs were popular in noble families, such as the Medici family, during the Renaissance era and you can even find the Bracco Italiano in Italian paintings and writings that date as far back as the 4th and 5th centuries BC.
The Bracco Italiano is an intelligent, strong, and docile dog that is ideal for families as well as people who have active lifestyles, taking advantage of their hunting skills and love for people. The Bracco has a short-haired shiny coat. It can be solid white, white with orange or dark gold; white with brown, and may have freckled markings. This dog breed interacts well with children, as they’re loyal and affectionate, and likes to socialize with other dogs. They also make excellent search and rescue dogs and therapy dogs. This breed enjoys a daily walk and space to run around as well as companionship with their owners.
The Bracco Italian in the United States
The Bracco Italiano first came to the US in the 1990s. Although it’s not a new breed, the American Kennel Club just recognized and added the Bracco Italiano as its 200th breed in their registry in 2022. If you’re looking for a smart, athletic, and loving dog that will thrive with your family it’s time to bring home your own Bracco Italiano!
