A new train route taking travelers from Germany and Austria all the way to Italy’s Ligurian coast has just launched. Run by Nightjet, the sleeper service train is run by Austria’s national rail provider ÖBB.
The new service comprises two routes – one from Vienna and another from Munich. The Vienna train departs at 7:18 p.m. and the Munich train leaves at 8:09 p.m. – both arrive in La Spezia, the second largest city in the Liguria region, at 11:10 a.m. Tickets start at €30 for a seat, €50 for a couchette and €70 for a sleeper car, according to Time Out.
The Ligurian Coast is famed for its charming Cinque Terre area, a string of centuries-old seaside villages that hug the Italian Riviera coastline. Nightjet already has train routes connecting to other Italian cities. A route connects Zurich in Switzerland with Milan and Rome for a total journey time of 8.5 hours, according to Forbes. Another night train departs from the German city of Stuttgart and connects to Venice, among other European cities like Vienna, Budapest and Zagreb in Croatia.
