Volcanos have been erupting all over the world as of late. On Sunday, a volcano in Indonesia erupted. The Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii erupted on November 27th and has been pouring out lava ever since.
On Sunday, December 4th, a volcano on the Sicilian Island of Stromboli erupted. The eruption caused an explosion setting off alarms across the island. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) recorded the violent explosion, witnessing clouds of ash into to sea and air.
They also registered a 4.6-magnitude earthquake early Sunday morning. The earthquake caused a small tsunami, creating waves 1.5 meters high. Luckily, the tsunami did not cause any damage.
The earthquake was detected around the Aeolian island archipelago, where stromboli is located. The tremor also did not cause any damage or result in any injuries.
Schools were forced to shut down since the volcano erupted to keep citizens safe from the disaster. Italy's Civil Protection Department has issued a Code Orange, with authorities instructing local populations to follow safety instructions.
