On Wednesday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck off the coast of Rimini, an Italian resort town on the Adriatic Coast. No serious damages or injuries were reported. The earthquake was felt as far as Rome in the west and Bologna in the northeast, as well as across the Adriatic Sea in parts of the Balkans, including Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia, and Herzegovina, according to the BBC.
The earthquake happened at 7 a.m. ( 1 a.m. EST) and was followed by more than 50 aftershocks, according to Reuters. A spokesman for Italy's Civil Protection told Reuters no one was injured.
The Italian Geophysics and Volcanology said the quake’s epicenter was located 35 kilometers (22 miles) offshore of the seaside city Pesaro, at a depth of 7 kilometers (4 miles), according to CNN. Schools and rail traffic in Pesaro and nearby cities were suspended.
