This 15th Century Castle in the Florentine Hills Is for Sale

If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a castle or living in Italy, then we have some good news for you. Sotheby’s International Real Estate has a listing for a dreamy 15th-century castle tucked within the rolling Florentine hills. Listed for €6 million, the equivalent of $6.5 million, the centuries-old property is surrounded by dense vegetation and appears to have been ripped out of the pages of a fairy tale – or maybe even your dreams.

This castle is centered in the Tuscan hills in the municipality of Reggello, located only 18 miles west of Florence. Originally built in 1427, it was redeveloped by Baron Angelo Adolfo Levi in 1860. He most notably introduced a lush  Italian garden to the landscaping. The 26,371-square-foot castle spread out over three floors, not including a basement, comes with 17 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.

The structure overlooks a large, newly built swimming pool with panoramic views of the countryside that is ideal to cool off on hot summer days. The rooms within the castle are decorated with historical furniture, vaulted, frescoed ceilings, an ornate marble fireplace, and opulent chandeliers, all of which add a touch of luxury and culture to the property.

Because of the rooms’ large sizes and timeless appeal, the castle is currently being used for private events and conventions, although the property could function well as a boutique hotel. These rooms overlook a secret manicured internal garden. In addition, the castle also boasts an in-home gym and a billiards room.

The castle is located within a private 55-acre park, including a vineyard and 19th-century Italian gardens that have wide lawns. According to Sotheby's listing, these large spaces can also be used to land and launch a helicopter. There are ample parking areas that accommodate up to 140 cars, and a field that can double as a tennis court or for calcetto,  a five-a-side soccer field, for the active.

The structure has recently been renovated to modern standards, and plumping, air conditioning, and electricals have been refitted. Only the upper floor’s residential quarters will need a final touch of restoration to preserve the castle’s medieval ancestry.

All of this can be yours for just $6.5 million.
