Could the United States Soon Have an Italian American President?

Reports: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ is 100% Italian

Ron DeSantis, the current governor of the state of Florida, has pulled ahead of former President Donald Trump in some polls as the top choice for Republican voters for the United States presidential nominee in 2024. 

According to reports, DeSantis is of 100% Italian heritage and all eight of his grandparents were born in Italy. DeSantis’ great-great-grandmother from his mother's side immigrated to the United States and arrived at Ellis Island on February 21, 1917. His maternal great-great-grandfather came to the United States from Italy in 1904, later settling in Pennsylvania. 

According to a recent poll by The Yahoo News/YouGov poll, 47% of registered Republican voters or Republican-leaning independent voters say they would choose DeSantis in their state primary or caucus. 

DeSantis, 44, became Florida’s 46th Governor in January 2019. As of Late-2022, he is still enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
