Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (4), 7-6 (7) could not get passed No. 9-ranked Taylor Fritz who gave the U.S. a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five matchup.
Jessica Pegula and Frances Tiafoe had each earned a point for the Americans earlier in the day, giving their country an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Italy.
The United States was dominant throughout the United Cup, falling in just two individual matches.

The United Cup featured 18 countries across Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney. In the United Cup format, ties are comprised of two ATP and two WTA singles matches and one mixed-doubles match.
