Wells Enterprises announces that it can lay off fewer employees to meet business demands.
The spokesman for the company announced on Thursday that it will employ about 300 people at its Ice Cream Dr. Facility in Dunkirk, NY. Back in the fall, the Iowa-based company laid off approximately 319 employees in an effort to scale back its productions from 20 lines to 5.
Later, they amended their statement, announcing that only 183 employees will be let go by the end of the year. They also announced that production will continue to be scaled down in order to "meet business demands," in a statement from a spokesperson to the Observer.
Earlier in December, the Ferraro Group announced that they were acquiring Wells enterprises, including all operations and ice cream brands. Some brands under the Wells enterprises name include Blue Bunny, Blue Ribbon Classics, and Halo Top. Ferraro started in 1946 as a small pastry shop located in Alba, Italy. Since its start, they have grown to be one of the most popular Italian candy and confection manufacturers in the world.
