Italian Truck Saves Lives in Ukraine

An Italian-made MLS Shield-protected vehicle saved lives Ukrainian lives in a statement from the former Ukrainian president, Petro Poroshenko. In mid-July, Poroshenko bought a batch of the MLS Shield armored vehicles for the Ukrainian troops.

The truck was hit by a mortar mine and the crew inside the truck was unharmed, saving all 11 soldiers inside the vehicle. "Venom," the proper name for the MLS truck is now back in the yard with torn seams and no bulletproof glass.

An MLS armored truck is a midweight protected midweight vehicle created by the Italian tech company Tekne. Tekne is an Italy-based company that designs and manufactures electronic systems focusing on special vehicles and agricultural machinery. The truck is based on the Ford chassis. The engine is in the front, the crew is in the middle, and the troop compartment is at the rear.

Ukraine purchased the Italian armored vehicles with private funds and during negotiations with Italian officials, the Ukrainian embassy in Italy, and the Italian military attache in Ukraine.
