On March 9, Donatella Versace staged her first Versace show in Los Angeles in more than 20 years. Debuting the 2023 men's and women’s Fall/Winter collection, Donatella not only enlisted models like veteran Naomi Campbell and Gigi Hadid to walk in her show, but she also invited over 500 Hollywood stars and celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus, and Cher, according to Vogue.
“This collection starts from the understanding and appreciation of the body that we have always had in our heart at Versace. We applied the lessons learned in the Atelier to ready-to-wear: the construction, the tailoring, the beauty of fabric,” said Donatella in a statement in the show notes, per The Hollywood Reporter. “This is a celebration of our craftsmanship and understanding of true luxury.”
Versace was founded in Milan in 1978 by Gianni Versace, an Italian designer, and businessman. Today, the brand is regarded as one of the world’s leading luxury fashion houses and is a symbol of Italian excellence. Its signature Medusa logo can be found on haute couture, accessories, jewelry, watches, fragrances, home furnishings, and more, according to the Versace official website. Donatella has been Versace’s Artistic Director since 1997, the same year that her brother Gianni was murdered outside of his Miami mansion.
"With this collection, I put myself to the test. It felt like a challenge. In Milan, I’m at home. Showing in Los Angeles was getting out of my comfort zone,” said Donatella about her co-ed 2023 Fall/Winter collection in an interview with L’Officiel. “ When I create a collection, I want to feel insecure... Maybe I’m crazy, but this is the questioning that helps me grow and improve.”
